South River approved resolution to clean water treatment plant

SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council approved a resolution authorizing U.S. Tank Painting LLC to conduct emergency repairs and improvements at the borough’s water treatment plant.

The borough’s licensed water operator recommended emergency repairs, and the council approved the contract to U.S. Tank Painting for $20,000 to conduct emergency repairs and improvements to the water treatment plant on Sept. 23.

Borough Administrator Art Londensky said the $20,000 for the repairs was an expense that will be charged against the emergency appropriation.

On the same night, the council also approved a resolution authorizing a $200,000 emergency appropriation for the Water Utility Operating Fund Budget.

The emergency condition includes cleaning, removal and disposal of sediment and disinfection to the water treatment plant, which requires immediate attention since the conditions have created an imminent danger to the health, safety and welfare of the residents, according to the council agenda.

Londensky said U.S. Tank Painting will began conducting the improvements during the last week of September.
