SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Detectives are renewing efforts to generate new leads in a 30-year-old murder case.
This month marks the 30th anniversary of the murder of a mother of nine in a convenience store in South Brunswick.
Aileen Morris, age 39, was working as a cashier in Krauszers on Alston Road just off Route 27, when around 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 10, 1989, a customer walked into the store and found her shot to death behind the counter, according to information provided by Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L. C. Kuberiet and Chief Raymond Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department.
Detectives pieced together the timeline and believed the murder took place in a 15-minute window of opportunity. Detectives questioned friends, customers and people who frequented the store. They followed leads all around the state, but the case remains unsolved, according to reports.
Hayducka, who was one of the first patrolman to respond to the call at the time, is asking for the public’s assistance.
“Time may have passed, but we know the answers are out there,” he said. “Someone reading this has that one piece of information that can help us catch the killer and they can remain anonymous.”
Renee Morris, Aileen’s daughter, said her mother was a hard-working woman.
“She was always working two or three jobs. There were nine of us ranging in age from 18 to 7 at the time she was killed. She was always helping other people. Our Constable Road home dinner table often had people eating at it because they had nowhere else to go,” she said, according to the statement.
