The Middlesex County “Game of the Week” featured Metuchen High School and Spotswood High School.
On Oct. 12 in Spotswood, the host Chargers defeated Metuchen, 34-13.
Offensively, Spotswood was successful in the run game and passing attack. Senior running back Anthony Dove produced 83 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, junior running back George Hayford contributed 70 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and senior fullback Shae Griffin gained 54 yards on 11 carries.
Spotswood senior quarterback Tallen Smith had himself a day as well. He added two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. On top of Smith’s offensive production, he defensively accounted for an interception.
Spotswood with the triumph improved to 3-3 on the season. The team’s next game is a road contest against Dunellen High School on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
On the other side of the field, Metuchen offensively was led by sophomore quarterback Stephen Michaliszyn, who threw two passing touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Terrance Barker and senior wide receiver Frederik Krebs each caught one TD.
Metuchen dropped to 3-3 with the loss. The Bulldogs next game is a home contest with Saint Thomas Aquinas High School of Edison on Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
