Bruce G. Freeman, 90

Bruce G. Freeman, 90, of Princeton passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro. Born in Perth Amboy, raised in Metuchen, he resided in Princeton for over 30 years. Mr. Freeman served in the United States Army Reserve for 10 years. He was a consultant for the institutional fund-raising firm Marts and Lundy retiring as Chief executive Officer after 27 years.  He started his career serving as a minister for the United Presbyterian Church.

 

Son of the late Benjamin G. and Beatrice (Wright) Freeman, brother of the late Robert Freeman, husband of the late Marjorie Kler Freeman, he is survived by 2 sons David B. Freeman and his partner Kelly Carr of Attleboro, MA ; and Mark Freeman of Voorhees, NJ ; a daughter and son in law, Judith and John Refalo of Flemington, NJ ; three grandchildren Dana Freeman, Sarah Freeman, Maura Chadwick and her husband Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Gunnar and Penelope Chadwick.

 

Bruce was a graduate of Rutgers University, where he was a record holder on the track team.  He earned a Masters-of-Divinity at New Brunswick Theological Seminary. Bruce served on the Boards of Trustees at both institutions.  He continued his volunteer service on the Boards of National Organization of Disabled, East Jersey Old Town, and the Princeton Healthcare System Foundation. Throughout his life he remained an ethusiatic supporter and fan of Rutgers University athletics, Mason Gross School of the Arts, and participating in the Christmas in Carol and Song Program.

 

In his later years, he enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, wrote poetry, and was active at the Center for Theological Inquiry, and in his community at Princeton  Windrows. He was a member of the Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton.

 

Plans for a memorial service are pending.
