SOUTH BRUNSWICK – An 11-year-old gymnast from South Brunswick just brought home a gold medal from a gymnastics competition in Portugal.

Ava DeHanes placed first in the individual trampoline at the International Loule Cup Competition in Portugal on Oct. 12. She competed against 45 athletes from Scotland, France and several other countries.

She also competed against 44 international youth athletes in the double mini trampoline, where she won the bronze.

“I’m really excited to represent my country in competitions all over the world,” Ava DeHanes said in a statement provided by her public relations team. “I hope I can inspire more kids to get involved with gymnastics. My mom has always been there for me, and I just want to say thank you to her, and to everyone who shows me so much support.”

Ava trains at Elite Trampoline Academy in Middletown. Her coaches are Steven Gluckstein, a two-time Olympian; Viachaslou Marozau, a multiple World Cup Champion; and Tatiana Kovaleva, a multiple World Champion and owner of ETA.
