EAST BRUNSWICK–The Township Council approved a resolution authorizing a preliminary investigation to determine if Ace Auto Wreckers is located in a Non-Condemnation Area in Need of Redevelopment.
East Brunswick Redevelopment Agency Executive Director Michael Hughes said this pertains to the site at 12 Harts Lane.
“This is an important business that came to the township [after] learning about what we are doing with the redevelopment area. We have studied these two particular parcels of property going back now five years ago when we did the original redevelopment study,” Hughes said. “They asked to be taken out of that redevelopment area, they have since apparently have gained confidence in the work that the East Brunswick Redevelopment Agency is going, as well as the commitment that the governing body and mayor have for redeveloping East Brunswick, making it a vibrant place to start and grow a business.”
The council approved the resolution on Oct. 14.
Business Administrator Joseph Criscuolo said one of the properties is 4.92 acres and the other parcel is three acres.
Hughes said Ace Auto Wreckers has asked to now be included in the redevelopment area. The resolution includes an adjacent parcel of their property to be included in the redevelopment study that will be coming to the council and the board relatively soon, he said.
Councilman James Wendell asked if the parcel that is being included was previously studied but omitted from the request.
Hughes said he thinks that the original ordinance that was passed did not include that particular parcel and that Ace Auto Wreckers owns both parcels.
