McCarter Theatre Center teams with local businesses for ‘Franken Stroll’

Local bars and restaurants have partnered with McCarter Theatre Center to offer patrons spooky-themed drinks during the theater’s run of “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.”

Spanning across all of downtown Princeton, nine local businesses have their very own Frankenstein-themed beverage. With a tenth being offered at McCarter Theatre Center itself, individuals have the opportunity to take part in a “Franken Stroll” that’s being offered throughout the run of the production, which closes on Nov. 3.

You can stop by the Teresa Caffe in Palmer Square and grab “The Modern Prometheus” from bartender Chris. A cocktail consisting of absinthe, organic vodka, spiced pear, basil and rosemary offers a delectable treat to enjoy prior to the ghoulish performance.

Or travel to Eno Terra on Route 27 for the “It’s Alive!” special containing Sourland vodka, Midori, Aranciata and butterfly pea flowers.

At Tico’s Eatery and Juice Bar on Witherspoon, they are offering a nonalcoholic drink named “The Green Monster.” A cold pressed organic juice drink features spinach, kale, green apple, ginger, lemon, celery and cucumber.

On Hullfish Street at Mediterra Restaurant and Taverna, enjoy “Frankenstein’s Last Word,” which contains Botanist gin, green Chartreuse, lime and juiced green apple and cucumber.

Making your way through Palmer Square, stop at the Yankee Doodle Tap Room for a shot of the “Brain Hemorrhage.” Containing peach schnapps, Baileys and grenadine, your shot glass will look as if you are consuming brain matter.

The last stop on the Palmer Square excursion will take you to Winberie’s. Enjoy a “Franken-tini” containing Midori, Absolut Citron and St. Germain.

On Nassau, experience a “Fearless, Therefore Powerful” at Agricola. Make a stop for the cocktail consisting of rosemary, blackberry, lemon, tequila, a splash of soda and orange bitters before heading next door to Triumph Brewery Co. for some “Frankenjuice.” My personal favorite, this fruity cocktail contains vanilla vodka, pineapple juice, melon liquor and is topped with whipped cream.

On Bayard Lane, venture over to The Peacock Inn for “The Black Widow Smash,” which contains tequila, blackberry liquor, brandy and blackberries.

Before showtime, you can make your way over to The Dinky Bar & Kitchen on University Place next to the theater and have the “Blushing Corpse Bride” – Barr Hill Tom Cat gin, Lillet rose, fresh lemon, green Chartreuse and absinthe rinse.

Upon entering McCarter Theatre Center, have the final drink of the “Franken Stroll” tour, the “Bloody Mary Shelley.” Consisting of lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, concentrated tomato juice, vodka, tabasco sauce and olives, the final cocktail will wake you up prior to the curtain rising.
