James Burgstahler, general manager of Applebee’s Manalapan, was named a top three finalist for GM of the Year at the 2019 Applebee’s fall business meeting. With GMs from more than 1,700 Applebee’s locations considered, Burgstahler’s leadership and positive attitude helped him stand out in this inaugural category. To celebrate, the team at Applebee’s Manalapan surprised Burgstahler with a party in his honor and Doherty Enterprises will recognize him at an awards dinner in April 2020. The award recognizes general managers who consistently deliver superior results in team performance and operational excellence, as well as lead by example. Starting as a host in 2001, Burgstahler worked in an hourly capacity until finishing his master’s degree, and then became a general manager in 2014.
