During the summer of 2019, more than 400 University of Delaware, Newark, Del., undergraduate students worked on research projects in disciplines all across the university and in the community. The students collaborated with their faculty mentors and, in many cases, with other undergraduates and graduate students, learning how original research takes place and creating new knowledge. Area students who participated were Evan Battaglia of Morganville, Sarah Geissler of Colts Neck, Ben Sammarco of Colts Neck, Alec Scallo of Manalapan and Jaclyn Singh of Colts Neck.
Samantha Mikos of Freehold is a member of the Kutztown University, Kutztown, Pa., 2019-20 basketball team, which has been picked to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division in a preseason poll. Samantha is a 5-11 freshman forward. She is a graduate of St. Rose High School, Belmar. Samantha is majoring in biology (pre-medical).
Samantha Blitzer of Manalapan, who is studying agriculture and life sciences education at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, received the Frank E. and Dorothy Clark Agriculture Scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year from the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and affiliated academic units. More than $3.5 million in student scholarships are offered each year by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and its academic units, in addition to money awarded by Iowa State at the university level.
Eric Schram of Freehold was among the 36 New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine student researchers who made an impressive showing at the 2019 national Osteopathic Medical Education Conference held Oct. 25-28 in Baltimore, Md. Medical students from NYITCOM-Long Island and NYITCOM-Arkansas had poster presentations featured at the conference. Eric was listed as a researcher on a poster called “Combined Familial Hypercholesterolemia and Mineral Bone Disorder in Chronic Kidney Disease: A Mouse Model.”
