Monroe mayor wins second term

MONROE – Democratic Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro was elected to his second term in Monroe.

Tamburro received 7,382 votes/52 percent in his bid for the four-year term on Nov. 5.

He faced Republican challenger Charles DiPierro, who currently serves as the Ward 3 councilman. DiPierro collected 6,721 votes/48 percent.

Tamburro, who is a 22-year resident of the township, said he ran for another term to continue the trend of maintaining stable and low property taxes in Monroe while continuing to enhance services to the residents.

He said one of his focuses will be continuing to fight for the residents as it pertains to affordable housing noting the township has saved thousands of units from being built in Monroe.

Election results are according to the Middlesex County Board of Elections and are unofficial until certified.
