A basketball coach for US Hoops, also known as Hoops America, was charged on Nov. 6 with multiple charges involving the sexual assault of a minor who was known to him.
Corey J. Pinto, 29, of Woodbridge was charged with 12 criminal counts, including aggravated sexual assault in the first degree, two counts of sexual assault in the second degree, aggravated criminal sexual contact in the third degree, two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and five second-degree counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to information provided by Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christie L. Bevacqua and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department.
The investigation was conducted by members of the Woodbridge Police Department, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals’ New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Their investigation revealed that on multiple occasions in 2019, Pinto allegedly supplied the minor with marijuana and alcohol and engaged in sexual activity with the victim, who was known to him.
Pinto was a basketball coach at US Hoops or Hoops America, a private training club based out of Red Bank, since 2010.
The defendant is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a Detention Hearing.
