After Hillsborough Township residents cast their votes on Nov. 5, they will now see the return of multiple incumbent candidates to both the township committee and school board.
Two candidates competed this election season for one open term on the five-person Hillsborough Township Committee. Republican candidate and incumbent Frank DelCore was reelected to the township committee over Democratic candidate Jeffrey A. Wright.
DelCore received 4,933 votes. Wright recorded 4,136 votes.
The election results are unofficial until they are certified by Somerset County.
One of those township’s main issues DelCore said he planned to address in his campaign was affordable housing. DelCore explained that the state’s affordable housing mandates are “crippling” local municipalities by forcing development in communities without regard to school capacity, road infrastructure or government services in place to handle the growth.
The current mayor said that the implementation of affordable housing must be prudent and responsible, and that he has continued to push back on Fair Share Housing and refuse to stop fighting until officials have a reasonable plan.
Meanwhile, the Hillsborough Township Public Schools Board of Education had five candidates on the ballot competing for three open seats.
The school board candidates for this year’s election were Joyce Eldridge-Howard, Gregory Gillette, Paul D. Marini, John P. Oliver and Jean Trujillo.
School board incumbents Gillette and Trujillo were reelected to their seats while Oliver claimed a seat on the board as well.
Trujillo received 4,055 votes. Gillette received 3,600 votes. Oliver registered 3,636 votes. Eldridge-Howard collected 3,529 votes. Marini recorded 3,152 votes.
