Dance For The Kids returns to Freehold Township High School on Nov. 21

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The second annual Freehold Township High School Dance For the Kids will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the high school. This event was created in 2018 by Skylar Feldman, who is now in her senior year.

In 2018, the event raised more than $9,000 for an Embrace Kids Foundation family. The family could no longer afford to pay rent as it dealt with significant medical bills.

The Embrace Kids Foundation exists to lighten the burden, maintain normalcy and improve the quality of life for families whose children are facing cancer, sickle cell and other serious health challenges. Embrace Kids addresses the spiritual, emotional and financial needs of patient families in the New Jersey/New York City metropolitan area, according to its website.

The 2018 Dance For The Kids was a four-hour dance-a-thon that was modeled after the annual Rutgers Dance Marathon. The inaugural event raised money for the Embrace Kids Foundation, New Brunswick.

The event is sponsored by more than a dozen corporate sponsors, including iPlay America, Dunkin’ Donuts and Jersey Mike’s.

Skylar said she learned about the event and how to run it from a family friend who serves on the board of the Embrace Kids Foundation and from another family friend who chaired the Rutgers Dance Marathon.

She said that during the 2018 event, participants danced, sang, played games and watched a video in which families who have been assisted by the foundation described how they were helped by events such as the one that was held at Freehold Township High School.

“I am filled with excitement and anticipation to see all of our hard work pay off on Nov. 21,” Skylar said. “Planning Dance For The Kids for the second year has been an amazing journey and I am so thankful for all of the support from my family, friends, high school and my town.

“As a senior, I know Dance For The Kids is being left in the very capable hands of my sister, Logan Feldman. Chairing this event with my sister this year has been a highlight of my high school career. I look forward to coming back to Freehold Township High School to see how the event continues to grow annually,” she said.

“I feel proud knowing our work will make a huge difference in the lives of so many Embrace Kids,” Logan said. “Skylar has shown me what hard work, commitment and dedication are all about. I am so excited to carry on the legacy she has created.

“We set the fundraising goal for 2019 at $10,000, which is twice the amount of last year’s goal. I am confident we will succeed in raising the funds. I hope more Freehold Township High School students will register and participate for a fun night for an incredible cause,” she said.
