Manalapan Police Beat, Nov. 13

The Manalapan Police Department reported the following incidents occurred in the township:

• On Oct. 28 at 4:24 p.m., officers responded to a business on Woodward Road in reference to a report of an individual who was trespassing. Police said a 52-year-old male resident of Manalapan was found to be in violation of a trespassing order. The man was issued a summons for defiant trespassing.

• On Oct. 27 at 1:21 p.m., officers responded to a business on Gordons Corner Road in reference to a report of theft. The business owner reported that sometime between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 26 and 1 p.m. Oct. 27, an unknown individual forcibly opened two cooking oil containers and removed 400 gallons of cooking oil valued at $800.

• On Oct. 26 at 7:48 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Parkview Way in reference to a report of theft and criminal mischief. A resident reported that sometime between 6 p.m. Oct. 21 and 6 p.m. Oct. 26, an unknown individual removed a camera that was mounted on the home and then damaged the resident’s vehicle by puncturing two tires.

• On Oct. 24 at 8:57 a.m., a resident of Turnberry Drive reported an incident of fraud. The resident reported he was contacted by phone by an unknown individual purporting to be an agent of the U.S. Treasury Department. The caller said the resident’s identity and Social Security number had been compromised and demanded that the resident send a $3,000 payment to reinstate the identity. The resident sent $3,000 in gift cards to the unknown individual and later learned the situation was a scam.

• On Oct. 23 at 9:08 p.m., a 19-year-old Manalapan resident reported an incident of harassment. The young adult told police he sent illicit photographs of himself to an unknown person he met through an online dating application. After receiving the images, the unknown individual demanded that the Manalapan resident send $500 or the pictures would be released across social media. The incident is pending further investigation.

• On Oct. 23 at 5:31 p.m., officers responded to a home on Millhurst Road in reference to a report of fraud. A resident told police she gave her credit card information to an unknown individual on the phone after being advised she could win a monetary prize. The unknown individual used the resident’s credit card to make a fraudulent purchase in the amount of $66.

• On Oct. 17 at 11:02 a.m., officers responded to a business on Route 9 in reference to the report of a burglary. The owner told the officers that sometime between 5 p.m. Oct. 16 and 9 a.m. Oct. 17, an unknown individual gained access to the business by forcing entry to a rear door. There were no items reported missing.
