EAST BRUNSWICK–A 29-year-old man from Monroe Township was arrested by East Brunswick police for allegedly shoplifting at the Walmart store on two separate dates.
On Nov. 7, at approximately 4:18 p.m., patrol units responded to 290 Highway 18, the site of the Walmart, for the report of a shoplifting in progress. Dispatch advised that a white male in a black sweatshirt wearing a hat had stolen items and left the store holding a blue duffel bag, according to the East Brunswick Police Department.
The suspect was observed by loss prevention running towards the transportation building. Patrol units checked the parking building along with the surrounding area with negative results. Loss prevention provided officers with a picture of the subject which was forwarded to the patrol units in the area, according to police.
The suspect was wanted in connection with numerous shopliftings that occurred in the previous two weeks, according to police.
On Nov. 12, patrol units were dispatched to Walmart again to assist with a possible shoplifter inside the store. The suspect had managed to avoid detection and had reportedly stolen over $6,000 in electronics and computers from the store and was back yet again, according to police.
Officers located the male in the rear of the store pushing a shopping cart filled with electronic range finders and other electronics. Upon viewing the officers’ presence, the suspect abandoned the shopping cart and attempted to walk away from officers, according to police.
The suspect was eventually detained by officers and identified as a 29-year-old male from Monroe Township. The man was reportedly positively identified as the same individual who had been captured shoplifting on store surveillance video on seven separate days, according to police.
Back at headquarters, the man allegedly admitted to shoplifting from Walmart over an approximate one-month long period. The man was charged with Shoplifting and Possession of Stolen Property, according to police.
