Winter ice skating enrollment at Old Bridge’s John Piccolo Ice Arena opens Dec. 19

Winter skating enrollment opens on Dec. 19 at the Old Bridge Township’s John Piccolo Ice Arena, which has recently been refurbished with new rubber flooring, a fresh coat of paint and restroom enhancements.

In addition, a new scoreboard will be installed shortly through a community grant from DuPont.

The grant represents an ongoing partnership between the township and DuPont’s Parlin site to help fund various programs within the Parks and Recreation Department and the Food Bank.

Open Public Skating sessions are available Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings and evenings. Fees range from $5 to $10 and skate rentals are available for $6. Party packages are also offered. Ice skating lessons are available to children, ages 4 and up, and adults, for both residents and non-residents.

Special programs include a therapeutic ice program for ages 12 and up to train for Special Olympics ice skating competitions. U.S. Figure Skating Membership is required for all classes at a cost of $16 and a one-time 15-minute starter lesson is required for new students. Online registration at www.oldbridge.com/recreation for winter lessons begins at 6 p.m. on Dec. 19 with classes starting on Jan. 13, 2020.

The Ice Arena’s six professional skating coaches include Former Ukrainian National Champion Muza Konovalova. All coaches are members of the Ice Skating Institute of America and the United States Figure Skating Association. The Ice Arena will remain open for the season until March 29, 2020.
