EAST BRUNSWICK–A 29-year-old East Brunswick resident was charged with theft after police identified him allegedly stealing a package from a residence on Riva Avenue.
On Dec. 14 at 3:04 p.m., patrol units responded to Riva Avenue on a report of a package theft from a front porch. The complainant stated that while they were home FedEx delivered a package to the residence at 2:58 p.m. and placed it on the front porch, according to police.
At approximately 3 p.m., the complainant reportedly observed a black BMW pull into the driveway. The suspect allegedly exited the vehicle, walked up to the front porch and stole the package. The suspect then returned to his vehicle, backed out of the driveway and fled the scene, according to police.
The complainant had video surveillance which showed a white male, approximately 5’6”, thin build, and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black baseball cap and glasses.
The video was placed on the Ring Video Doorbell application which received responses from residents who claimed similar situations occurred, according to police.
East Brunswick police officers headed to the suspect’s possible residence, according to the statement. Patrolman Agnes Garncarz allegedly observed packages in the rear seat of the suspect vehicle, which was in the driveway, according to police.
The man, 29, of East Brunswick, was also identified from the surveillance video and was placed under arrest for theft, according to police.
