The Hillsborough Township Committee recently recognized a local boy scout for his achievement to reach the rank of Eagle Scout.
At a Dec. 10 committee meeting, the Hillsborough municipal officials acknowledged Brendan O’Kane, a senior at Hillsborough High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 1776, for earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
Brendan’s project consisted of building a lacrosse wall to provide local athletes with a dedicated spot to practice shooting and passing. Brendan dedicated the wall to his friend that passed away from leukemia and memorialized his love for lacrosse.
The wall was also designed with the assistance of an architect, built primarily with wood donated by A&B Landscaping and covered with skate light. The project took 150 hours with a total of 30 volunteers over a two-day period.
“The Hillsborough Township Committee recognizes and extends its sincere congratulations to Brendan O’Kane for having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, an honor for both himself and those who guided him,” Hillsborough Township Mayor Frank DelCore said during the proclamation reading.
Brendan has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader of Service and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader of Programming in Troop 1776. He has participated in the Johnson & Johnson Technology Program, the Mountain Ski Club and the Loud Speakers Club. Brendan is also a coach through the Hillsborough Township Recreation Department.
Following the proclamation granting, Brendan expressed his thanks and appreciation for the support from the municipality, A & B Landscaping, and help from the volunteers as well as his fellow Troop 1776 members.
