The Hillsborough Township Committee recognized the Hillsborough High School varsity gymnastics team at a December meeting.
At a Dec. 10 committee meeting, the Hillsborough municipal officials acknowledged the Hillsborough gymnastics team after the squad completed a winning season. The team earned a 10-0 record in dual meets and finished in first place in the Somerset County Championship meet.
Hillsborough also won the Skyland Conference title and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Central 2 sectional meet. Hillsborough eventually placed fifth in the state championship meet.
During the proclamation reading ceremony for the team, Hillsborough Township Mayor Frank DelCore expressed his congratulations to the squad on their successful year as well as the significance of their efforts.
“The township committee commends the Hillsborough High School varsity gymnastics team, the coaches and parents, not only for their successful season but for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the sport and to those principles of good sportsmanship, teamwork and academic achievement which the organization endorses,” DelCore said. “Thank you very much for the pride you brought to Hillsborough, another very successful season and we look forward to seeing what you will do in the future.”
Following the proclamation reading from DelCore, Hillsborough head coach Sarah Pallay spoke on behalf of her team’s successful year at the meeting and commended the gymnasts for their achievements.
“They are an extremely dedicated and hardworking team who earned every bit of success they had this season,” said Pallay, who was assisted by coach Brittney Marcsisin and volunteer coach Beth Murrin.
The 2019 Hillsborough High School varsity gymnastics team consisted of Jordyn Bell; Katina Coyle; Isha Gupta; Nikki Jessup; Meghan Kurz; Kayla Kwinta; Michelle Lopez-Martinez; Haley Mandell; Aastha Patel; Shaina Patel; Samantha Ringel; Sabina Shah; Jiya Sharma; Kathryn Wehner; and Tara Vrabel.
