Hun School alumna crowned Miss America 2020

Camille Schrier is standing a bit taller tonight as she balances a glittering crown bestowed upon her head as Miss America 2020 in Uncasville, CT.

The Hun School of Princeton Class of 2013 alumna dazzled the judges with her talent—a science experiment demonstrating the catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. The live experiment was dramatic indeed, complete with colorful foam spouting from beakers, but it is significant because it marks a sea change for the Miss America competition and is the first time a contestant has won for a science experiment.

Schrier, who won a $50,000 scholarship, will begin her role as Miss America immediately and will be traveling around the country to promote her social impact initiative focusing on medication safety and abuse prevention.

The pharmacy graduate student has spent the past year as Miss Virginia collaborating with industry experts and speaking with the public to educate about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.

Hun Sophomore Dean Todd Loffredo remembers Schrier as a natural leader and a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) enthusiast.

“I remember Camille as a level-headed, well-rounded leader in my marine science class. She approached her academic pursuits with passion and a sense of benevolence to those around her. I knew she was passionate about STEM when we discussed her love of turtles and her desire to be a herpetologist when she ‘grew up.’”

Schrier has clearly sparked something extraordinary by proving that talents come in many forms.
