The 2019 Hillsborough High School choir was recently recognized at a Hillsborough Township Committee meeting for having earned a successful year.
The choir was honored with a proclamation at a Dec. 17 township committee meeting, which was presented by Mayor Frank DelCore and the committee members.
In April, the Hillsborough choir group competed in an Invitational Festival of Gold in Chicago as a result of their accomplishments in the International Competition in Montreal, Canada. The choir is led under the direction of Julianna LoBiondo and under the leadership of the Choir Council, which consists of Falcon Burns; Evan Centofanti; Matthew Conlon; Shaan Desai; Owen Gavigan; Zoe Hack; Lyra Koncsol; Elizabeth LeBoeuf; Max Miller; Aiden Minter; Sabrina Schubert; Caitlin Schwarz; and Hiba Siddiqui.
Additionally, 12 students were selected by the New Jersey Music Educators Association to perform with 350 students at the Atlantic City Convention Center and New Jersey Performing Arts Center under the direction of Sandra Snow.
Six students were selected and will perform at NJPAC under the direction of Nicole Snodgrass.
21 choir students were also selected by the Central New Jersey Music Educator Association to perform at Monroe High School on Jan. 27 last year under the direction of Jennifer Sengin and John Wilson.
All three choirs received gold score ratings of 95 out of 100, as well as three Adjudicators Awards, Outstanding Soloist Award and the Choral Sweepstake Award.
“The Hillsborough Township Committee commends the Hillsborough High [School] Choir, the choir director, conductors and parents, not only for their successful year but for their hard work, dedication and commitment to the arts,” DelCore said in a statement .
At the Dec. 17 meeting, the choir also performed an impromptu request by DelCore to sing a rendition of “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”
Following a reading of the group’s proclamation, DelCore noted that in addition to their efforts in competitions and performances, the students also sing at several municipal events.
“The choir has been so wonderful to the township committee and the township in general,” DelCore said during the meeting. “They volunteer to perform at our annual ‘Salute to the Veterans Breakfast.’ They are obviously very successful in their competitions.”
