North Brunswick man pleads guilty to causing death of pedestrian

A North Brunswick man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a 22-year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed on Livingston Avenue during the early morning hours of April 20, 2019.

Daquan White, 27, of North Brunswick, the operator of the car, pleaded guilty on Dec. 3 to knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, resulting in death in the second degree and hindering his own apprehension in the third degree, according to information provided by Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet.

Under a plea agreement reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Keith Abrams, White will be sentenced to a prison term of eight years with four years of parole ineligibility for causing the death of Anthony Cruz-Medina, 22, of New Brunswick.

White was charged as a result of an investigation by Patrolman Sean Cahill of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation determined that on April 20, 2019, at approximately 12:40 a.m., White was driving a 2001 Acura Cl Coupe when he struck and killed the victim on Livingston Avenue near Baldwin Street. Cruz-Medina was pronounced dead at the scene.

White is scheduled to be sentenced in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus on March 9.
