A team of law enforcement officers successfully resolved a potentially dangerous situation by convincing an apparently distraught man to surrender following an incident at a home in Old Bridge on Jan. 8.
No charges have been filed, but the man, whose identity is being withheld, is in custody pending the outcome of an investigation, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department said in a statement on Jan. 9.
Law enforcement officers from the Old Bridge Police Department were dispatched to the home after police received a called at 10:50 p.m. regarding an individual in distress inside the residence. Subsequently, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT) were dispatched to respond to the situation.
The man surrendered at approximately 3:25 a.m. following negotiations with SORT.
No one was injured during the incident, according to the statement.
The incident is being investigated by the Old Bridge Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
