Driver extricated from vehicle fire listed in stable condition, according to South Brunswick police

 

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A South Brunswick resident extricated from a vehicle on fire and transported to the hospital with suspected serious bodily injury has since been upgraded to stable condition.

A serious motor vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Route 1 and New Road in South Brunswick around 10:07 a.m. on Jan. 14, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

The driver was traveling westbound on New Road and was reportedly crossing Route 1 on a green light, according to reports. A second vehicle, driven by a Plainsboro resident, was traveling northbound on Route 1, when it reportedly proceeded through the intersection on a red light, striking the first vehicle. The second vehicle then collided with a third vehicle, which was stopped at the intersection.

A witness to the crash noticed that the first vehicle was on fire, and notified a police officer who was located a short distance from the crash scene, according to reports. That officer arrived within seconds and extinguished the fire, along with a firefighter who also happened to be in the area.

The other drivers were evaluated and released by EMTs on scene, according to reports.

The crash remains under investigation.
