NORTH BRUNSWICK – North Brunswick residents will soon be able to “eat mor chikin.”
A Chick-fil-A quick service restaurant was approved for the former site of Bertucci’s at 2313 Route 1 at Commerce Boulevard in North Brunswick.
Members of the Zoning Board of Adjustment unanimously approved the project on Jan. 21. The application came before the board due to its drive-through component; Chick-fil-A is located in a transitional mixed-use zone where a restaurant is permitted, but drive through is not.
“Mr. Martinez’s [John, development manager for Chick-fil-A] children should be happy, at least from my point of view, and I think my children will be happy,” said board member Thomas Abode.
“Chick-fil-A is eager to be here,” said Duncan Prime, representing the applicant. “We’re looking forward to opening.”
Since this was a repurposing of the existing entity, Abode said there is ample parking to address the needs of the competing businesses in the shopping plaza.
He and member Chadd Heyman asked that there be adequate shrubbery, but not so much as to distract drivers on Route 1.
“We’re happy to welcome you to North Brunswick,” Vice Chairman Joseph Policastro III said after the board granted to use and bulk variance.
