The Arts Council of Princeton will feature a new exhibit on Feb. 22 by Princeton artist Charles McVicker called “McVicker at 90: A Retrospective.”
The exhibit will be on display in the arts council’s Taplin Gallery located at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts on 102 Witherspoon St. in Princeton.
The exhibition will feature works by McVicker from Feb. 22 until March 14.
According to arts council officials, an opening reception is being held on Feb. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Charles McVicker said he believes that through art, he is both a reporter and an interpreter.
“My paintings are autobiographical in the sense that they are the result of experiences and travels. I paint what I think is important or beautiful,” McVicker said.
McVicker specifically works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor.
Officials said he is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Watercolor USA Honor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the National Society of Painters in Acrylic and Casein, the Princeton Artists Alliance, and was President of the Garden State Watercolor Society; having also won various awards in all of these organization’s juried exhibitions.
He has won the Robert Sanstrom gold medal in the National Society of Painters in Acrylic and Casein Annual Exhibit and was the honored artist at the Phillips Mill Annual exhibit in Bucks County, Pa.
His paintings are included in the collections of Princeton University, the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University, according to officials.
