The late Jeanine Willis of Freehold Township has been posthumously inducted into the Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association (MOSA) Hall of Fame.
The MOSA Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place on Feb. 27 at the Colts Neck Inn, Colts Neck, according to a press release.
According to the press release, Willis served on the MOSA board for more than 20 years, holding the position of treasurer. During those 20 years she also served as first vice president with the Battle of Monmouth Soccer Club.
At the time of her passing at the age of 67 in 2007, Willis had held the position of executive director with New Jersey Youth Soccer for 27 years. She started with the organization as a volunteer, setting up an office in the basement of her home at its inception, according to the press release.
Willis was inducted into the New Jersey Youth Soccer Hall of Fame in 1993.
Willis was a long-time member of the Freehold Township K-8 School District Board of Education. In honor of Willis, soccer fields on Wemrock Road were named for her.
MOSA is a 501(c)(3) travel soccer league based in central New Jersey affiliated with New Jersey Youth Soccer. Currently there are 50-plus member clubs with more than 550 soccer teams that participate per season. Divisions for boys and girls run from U-8 through U-19 with seasons running in the fall and spring.
