Three members of a Montgomery Township family, including a student at the Montgomery Lower Middle School, have tested positive for coronavirus, the Montgomery Township Health Department announced March 14.
The three family members that tested positive for COVID-19 are already under home quarantine, according to Montgomery Township Health Department officials.
One of the family members who tested positive is a student at the Montgomery Lower Middle School and who attended school before becoming symptomatic. The exposure to the general student population is low, Montgomery Township Health Department officials said.
The Montgomery Township Public Schools have switched to remote learning, which will be in place through March 30.
In the meantime, parents are advised to monitor their child for fever and cough until March 24. The child’s health care provider should be contacted if a fever or cough develop.
Montgomery Township officials announced March 11 that they were aware of township residents who may have been exposed to COVID-19 at a private party in Princeton last month.
People who attended the party had been advised by the Montgomery Township Health Department to stay home for 14 days and to monitor themselves for symptoms, which include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
The Montgomery Township Health Department is conducting epidemiological interviews to determine whether any students or individuals who may be close contacts of the affected family are at elevated risk of exposure.
Those individuals who are at elevated risk will be contacted directly by the Montgomery Township Health Department to be advised about additional precautions that they should take to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Montgomery Township Health Department officials are asking residents to practice social distancing in the community, which means avoiding crowds, staying home when you are sick and maintaining a distance of six feet between other people.
