EAST WINDSOR – Although there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 in East Windsor, Mayor Janice S. Mironov has declared a state of emergency in response to the spread of the coronavirus.
The declaration, which was issued on March 19, is intended to ensure that township officials will be able to continue all essential governmental operations and to be able to protect township residents, Mironov said.
The state of emergency means “township officials will be authorized to promulgate such needed orders, rules and regulations as are necessary to address any contingencies that may arise,” Mironov said.
East Windsor is not the only Mercer County town to have declared a state of emergency in reaction to the spread of COVID-19.
Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert declared a state of emergency on March 13, and Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora declared a state of emergency on March 14.
East Windsor officials had already taken several steps to protect residents, starting with the suspension of activities, trips and programs at the East Windsor Senior Center as of March 13. The senior center remains open weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The Mercer County Nutrition Program, which operated at the East Windsor Senior Center at 40 Lanning Blvd., also was suspended on March 13.
The East Windsor Township Municipal Building at 16 Lanning Blvd. remains open, but residents are encouraged to conduct business with the township by telephone at 609-443-4000, by email at www.east-windsor.nj.us or by regular mail.
Visitors to the municipal building must stop at the front desk to explain the purpose of their visit, and they will be assisted at that point.
While the East Windsor building is open, township officials have closed the East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority’s building to the public. A dropbox is located to the left of the front door for general mail and water/sewer payments.
Residents can conduct business with the East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority, which is located at 7 Wiltshire Dr., by telephone at 609-443-6000, by email at www.eastwindsormua.com or by regular mail.
