One of eight people tested positive for COVID-19 at St. Joseph’s Senior Home in Woodbridge has died

WOODBRIDGE – One of the elderly patients who tested positive for COVID-19 passed away from the virus at the hospital on March 21, according to Woodbridge Mayor John E. McCormac.

The patient was one of eight people confirmed positive for the coronavirus in Woodbridge Township from the St. Joseph’s Senior Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility.

McCormac, who reported the passing of the patient in his daily report on March 22, said the township does not have any additional details.

“Please keep them and their family in your thoughts and prayers,” he said.

Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald Rios had reported the death of a 98-year-old New Brunswick woman as the county’s first death from COVID-19 on March 21. Kimberly Burnett, public information officer for Middlesex County, said she only could confirm what Rios referenced in his statement about the 98-year-old woman and could not confirm if the woman was the person from the St. Joseph’s Senior Home.

Woodbridge reported three new positive COVID-19 cases on March 22, which brings the total to 22 in the township.

McCormac said township official notices dealing with COVID-19 can be found on the township’s website as well as a list of Woodbridge pharmacies, food stores and restaurants that remain open at www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us.
