NORTH BRUNSWICK – The North Brunswick Police Department announced some manpower changes in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Officers are not allowed to request time off until June, Police Director Ken McCormick said during the March 30 North Brunswick Township Council meeting.
Officers will now work 12-hour days, three days on and six days off.
Squads have also been reduced so there is no overlap of personnel, as to minimize the amount of people in police headquarters at the same time, McCormick said.
The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department has also volunteered sheriff’s officers to patrol shopping centers, apartment complexes and businesses, McCormick said.
Last month, the department promoted Joseph Grasso to sergeant and Michael McCormick to lieutenant. Two more officers were sworn in during a private ceremony on March 30, McCormick said. The department is looking to hire two additional officers but police academies across the state are currently closed, he said.
