MILLSTONE – Roger Staib, a former member of the Township Committee who later served as Millstone Township’s business administrator, has died.
According to his obituary, Staib, 66, died on April 4 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Staib was born in Manhattan and resided in Irvington, Essex County, and Warren, Somerset County, before moving to Millstone Township 33 years ago.
Staib served one term on the Township Committee from 1995-97. He did not seek re-election in 1997 and last ran for a seat on the governing body in 2002.
He was also a member of the Millstone Township Republican County Executive Committee and served as that panel’s chairman.
In early 2019, Staib was named Millstone Township’s acting business administrator. He held the position for just under one year until he resigned in January due to health issues.
Staib’s obituary states he was a National Rifle Association pistol instructor, a 100-ton boat captain and a small engine aircraft pilot. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janice Staib.
“I had the privilege of knowing him for many years,” Mayor Fiore Masci said. “Roger Staib was simply a wonderful person and a dear friend; someone who was dedicated to always trying to get the best out of others who he surrounded himself with.
“He was loyal, smart, funny and a person who was never afraid to challenge another (and who never) compromised his beliefs. Millstone Township owes so much of what we have and where we are because of his never-ending love for this town. He will be truly missed,” Masci said.
