WOODBRIDGE – After days of positive COVID-19 numbers in the 40s and 50s, Woodbridge officials reported its lowest number – six cases – bringing the total of cases in the township to 1,231, according to Mayor John McCormac in his daily report on April 27.
“Let’s hope this starts a very positive trend in town, but we will see tomorrow,” he said. “The Governor [Phil Murphy] and the State Health Commissioner [Judith Persichilli] are reporting that the curve is starting to flatten in New Jersey and that new hospital admissions are on the decline so that is more good news.”
The township has lost 46 residents to COVID-19, according to Middlesex County.
McCormac, in his report, recognized the township’s custodians and maintenance workers.
“They work in one building or school and are rarely seen outside of it, but their job now is so incredibly important to make sure our facilities are clean and safe for people to work in,” he said. “They work under more pressure than ever and they are very much at risk themselves and they have done a tremendous job. When schools ultimately reopen, parents and teachers can be assured that all buildings will be fully cleaned and sanitized and that their children will be safe. Thank you to all of these employees.”
The mayor also recognized Middlesex Water Company and Hillside Gardens for their donations to We Feed Woodbridge, $5,000 and $2,500 respectively. The donations are critical to make sure township residents, especially homebound seniors, have access to food during the crisis when demand is increasing greatly due to the surge in unemployment, he said.
The John F. Kennedy High School Parent Teacher Organization cancelled its Tricky Tray event, but they are still holding their Super 50/50 raffle and a chunk of the profits will go to township food banks. The drawing is at 9 p.m. on May 2 on Facebook live. To purchase tickets email [email protected].
McCormac continues to urge neighbors to check on people who live alone and cannot leave their homes.
