Adelphia School teacher collects food to support Howell families

HOWELL – Family members and neighbors of an Adelphia School teacher have donated food to help families in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The effort was facilitated by second grade teacher Jain Miller, who said, “This is a grassroots effort by our family and neighbors that we started about a week ago. It was launched on Facebook.

“The support from the community has been tremendous! We are collecting food donations to support eight specific local families.

“There are more families we would like to support if possible. Collections are being made and personally delivered to the homes of these families each week,” Miller said.

Perishable and nonperishable food items were dropped off on Miller’s porch.

“The families (that received the food) were most appreciative of this support. We are hoping to continue our weekly deliveries as long as they are needed,” Miller said, adding that the Colts Neck High School ROTC students, football team and dance team have pledged their support to the effort.

“The Howell Township Education Association is donating $500,” Miller said.

Adelphia School Principal Danielle Palazzolo said the donations were private and the school was not soliciting donations.
