Two testing sites available for Mercer County residents

The number of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mercer County has continued to climb, increasing from 3,605 positive cases as of April 28 to 4,594 positive cases as of May 4, the New Jersey Department of Health has announced.

The number of deaths also increased, from 212 through April 28 to 256 deaths through May 4, officials said. A breakdown of the number of deaths in each town was not available.

Hopewell Borough reported the fewest number of COVID-19 positive test results with four residents testing positive for the disease on May 1. The City of Trenton reported 1,380 residents had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 1.

Municipal statistics lag behind state statistics, officials said.

Information gathering is underway on new cases and continues on the remaining ones, officials said. The number of positive cases continues to grow as more testing sites open around Mercer County.

Mercer County opened an appointment-only, drive-through testing site in the parking lot at the Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrence Township March 31. Walk-up patients are not permitted at the Quaker Bridge Mall testing site.

However, a walk-up testing site has been set up in Trenton for residents who cannot get to the drive-through testing site. The pop-up testing site will rotate among the four wards in Trenton.

Both sites are restricted to Mercer County residents who have shown COVID-19 symptoms and who have a physician’s prescription for the test. Trenton residents who do not have a primary care physician can contact the Henry J. Austin Health Center at 609-278-5900 to determine if a test is needed.

Both the Quaker Bridge Mall drive-through testing site and the Trenton walk-up testing site are a collaborative effort between Mercer County and several Mercer County hospitals.
