East Brunswick Daisy troops donate water, Gatorade to local heroes

East Brunswick Daisy Girl Scouts in Kindergarten Troop 81920 and First Grade Troop 81624 came together to honor the heroes at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the East Brunswick Police Department, the local COVID-19 testing site at MedExpress and the local food bank.

The girls spent hours making homemade cards with heartfelt messages that now pepper the offices of hospital staff, the pediatric unit at RWJ hospital and police headquarters.

“Through their Girl Scout work, the girls learned the importance and value of helping others,” Troop Leader Julia Peysakhova said in a prepared statement. “The girls also learned to work together while sheltering at home to make all of this happen.”

The girls voted unanimously to use the proceeds from their Girl Scout cookie sale to purchase cases of water and Gatorade. Their troop leaders talked to them about how important it is to stay hydrated when working really long hours.

The girls are planning a second phase of their project. They are making more cards and asking family and friends for donations of water and Gatorade. They plan to make the second donation during the week of May 18.
