EDISON – Edison officials reported 14 new positive cases of COVID-19 on May 23, bringing the total number of cases to 1,717, according to the Edison Office of Emergency Management.
The age range of the cases are 31 to 98, officials said. The township has lost 178 residents to COVID-19, according to Middlesex County.
The township announced the cancellation of the annual Memorial Day Parade, which was scheduled for May 24, because of the public health emergency. Township officials have asked the community “to remember the magnitude of service all of our veterans have made, and especially those who tragically made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great country.”
In place of the parade, the township will hold a laying of wreaths and street dedications on May 25. Township officials urge proper social distancing, masks will be available.
The laying of wreaths will begin at 9 a.m. at Veteran’s Park, Stony Road and Route 27; at 9:15 a.m., a street dedication for Earl F. Boland, a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, at Carmello Drive and Partch Place; at 10:15 a.m., a street dedication for Daniel F. O’Leary, a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during Vietnam at Lexington Avenue and Mineola Place; and at 10:55 a.m., a street dedication for Raymond A. Arway, a second class officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II at Amboy Avenue and 6th Street.
The township has resumed the collection of cardboard from outside of the recycling container on regular recycling days.
Edison Township was not provided any other information regarding the new cases.
