Metuchen new COVID-19 cases remain low, borough will present Halsey Movie Drive-in June 16

METUCHEN – Metuchen has reported one new COVID-19 case, which brings the total number of cases to 130 as of June 9, according to information provided by Middlesex County.

The borough has lost three residents to the virus, according to Middlesex County.

Outdoor dining, retail applications for expanded use of public sidewalks, public parking, public streets and private spaces are available on the borough’s website. Gov. Phil Murphy announced outdoor dining will resume on June 15.

Mayor Jonathan Busch announced on June 8 the borough, in conjunction with Hackensack Meridian Health and Boxcar, will present the Halsey Movie Drive-in at the Halsey Street parking lot this summer.

The first show is expected to begin at 8:15 p.m. on June 16. The borough is awaiting permission on the specific film, but it will be a family-friendly feature. For tickets visit https://www.boxcarapp.com/metuchen-movies.

The borough’s Recreation Department has announced a field hockey and a mini-soccer camp and is expected to release more information on the availability of more summer sports camps. Once permitted to return, all Metuchen-based youth sports non-profit organizations and borough summer sports camps will be given field priority, Mayor Jonathan Busch has said.

The Borough Pool Commission has canceled the 2020 summer pool season, which includes the Metuchen Municipal Pool (MMP) Swim and Dive team.

Bulk and metal pickup resumed on June 1. To accommodate as many residents as possible, the township’s Department of Public Works will limit pickups to no more than three items per home. To schedule a pickup call 732-632-8519.
