Board-certified internal medicine physician and medical oncologist, Dr. Seth D. Cohen, from East Brunswick, has been appointed to the newly created position of regional director of Oncology Services for the RWJBarnabas Health Southern Region.
In this role, Cohen will provide leadership and direction to enhance the quality and future growth of cancer services across Monmouth and Ocean counties, including integrating services available at Monmouth Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus and Community Medical Center.
Prior to accepting this position, Cohen served as the medical director for Oncology Clinical Research at Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus and remains the principal investigator for several oncology clinical trials. As regional direction of Oncology Services for the Southern Region, Cohen will utilize his clinical trials expertise to build and integrate an oncology clinical research program for the entire Southern Region, according to a statement from RWJBarnabas Health.

Libutti, senior vice president, Oncology Services, RWJBarnabas Health and director of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. “As the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Rutgers Cancer Institute in collaboration with RWJBarnabas Health provides the most advanced treatment options for patients close to home including those therapies that come as a result of clinical research.”

A member of the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, Cohen specialists in breast, colorectal and lung cancers; lymphomas; and genitourinary and gynecologic malignancies. He serves as an attending physician and is a member of the multidisciplinary team at the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus. Cohen is fellowship-trained in hematology and oncology with a subspecialty in pain and palliative care and has been affiliated with Monmouth Medical Center since 2004.
Cohen received his medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Buffalo, New York, completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and completed his fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
Cohen is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology and is regularly recognized as a top doctor by New Jersey Monthly magazine.
