Learn about mental health services through a series of webinars courtesy of NAMI

The New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) will present “Community Mental Health 101” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 20.

The webinar will provide affiliates of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) providers and family members an overview of the public, community mental health system in New Jersey.

Attendees will also be given an update on how DMHAS has been responding to the challenges of COVID-19.

In addition, speakers will talk about FEMA and SAMHSA grants.

Then, from 7-8:15 p.m., NAMI In Our Own Voice is a program for community education and reducing stigma, as trained volunteers share their lived experience of mental health recovery: What Happened, What Helps, and What’s Next.

This is a presentation NAMI gives more than 200 times a year to a wide variety of audiences, including high school and college classes, professional trainings, family education courses and congregations.

NAMI Hearts & Minds is a presentation focusing on inner and outer wellness for people living with a mental illness. The upcoming presentation from 7-8:15 p.m. July 27 will be on nutrition and mental wellness, specially presented by Rebecca Howard, and will be part of NAMI NJ’s Webinar Series.
Objectives of the presentation:
  1. To achieve an understanding of how nutrients in food affect the brain
  2. To identify healthier food choices that can be made when grocery shopping
  3. To understand the biological processes by which the body utilizes nutrients
  4. To identify foods that provide beneficial nutrients for neurological and psychological health
