Jackson residents whose homes are in need of repairs can turn to municipal officials for possible assistance.
Officials have appointed Rehabco Inc. as the township’s housing rehabilitation administrator/coordinator.
In accordance with the housing rehabilitation program, Jackson officials previously designated $138,000 to be appropriated from the township’s affordable housing trust fund to cover repairs at 46 units at a cost of $3,000 per unit.
Officials have now authorized repairs to an additional 20 units at the same cost (total of $60,000).
The housing rehabilitation program is part of Jackson’s compliance with state affordable housing mandates.
The program was created to mitigate health and safety issues and to ensure basic building code compliance of all income-eligible housing units completed through the program, including mobile home rehabilitation, according to a resolution that was recently passed by the members of the Township Council.
Guidelines for the housing rehabilitation program were prepared by Rehabco, according to the resolution. A principal of Rehabco could not be reached for comment.
