MILLSTONE – One Democrat has been nominated to seek a three-year term on the Township Committee in Millstone Township in the Nov. 3 election.
Raymond D. Dothard Jr. earned the nomination through the write-in process in the July 7 primary election, according to the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.
There were 53 write-in votes cast in the Democratic primary and Dothard received nine votes to secure the nomination.
No Democrats filed a nominating petition to run for local office this year. With his nomination, Dothard will seek one of the two available three-year terms on the governing body.
This will be the sixth time Dothard has run for the Township Committee. He has lived in Millstone for more than 28 years. Dothard is a graduate of Tuskegee University with a degree in chemistry. He worked in aviation and is a retired commercial airline captain and Federal Aviation Administrator safety inspector.
Dothard served as a fighter pilot with the U.S. Air Force and the New Jersey Air National Guard with 138 combat missions during the Vietnam War. He is the chairman of the Millstone Township Veterans’ Memorial Council.
In the Nov. 3 election, Dothard is currently expected to face Republicans Christopher Morris and Michael McLaughlin. Information about Millstone’s Republican primary is featured in a separate article.
Republicans hold all five seats on the Township Committee.
