Sayreville council sets aside funds for water well improvements, approves liquor licenses

SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville Borough Council has adopted a capital ordinance appropriating $750,000 for improvements to one of the borough’s water wells.

On July 20, council members adopted the capital ordinance providing for the rehabilitation and/or replacement of a well located in the Duhernal Well Fields, the borough’s water system. The improvements will be made to Well BF, according to the ordinance.

Through the ordinance, officials have appropriated $750,000 from the borough’s capital improvement fund to finance the costs of the project. In addition to the rehabilitation and/or replacement of the well, the appropriation will cover all work, materials and appurtenances necessary or incidental to complete the project.

In other business, the council passed separate resolutions approving liquor licenses for the following businesses during the 2020-21 licensing term: Zinel & Nell, LLC (Covello Liquor & Bar); Mitthu, Inc. (South Pine Liquors); Tappan Liquors, LLC (The 404); Kushal Corp. (Express Liquors); Winecraft NJ, LLC (House of Liquors); Pooja Sayreville, LLC (In Town Liquor & Bar); Tapp & Growler, LLC; American Legion Post 211; Camillo’s Restaurant and Pizza; and Rest Corp./Arirang Hibachi Stakehouse & Sushi Bar.

The council also passed a resolution requesting approval from the state to amend the 2020 municipal budget by inserting a Clean Communities Grant in the amount of $72,984 as an item of revenue.

Additionally, the council passed a resolution awarding a contract with Panoramic Window and Door Systems, Inc., Stockton, for window replacement at the Sayreville Senior Center in an amount not to exceed $64,000.

Council members also passed a resolution approving a closeout change order in the contract with Lancha Construction Corp. for the third phase of the 2018 roadway paving and reconstruction project. The change order, which is the second approved by the governing body, decreases the contract from $1.61 million to $1.58 million – a decrease of $29,257.

Finally, council members passed a resolution accepting the work, closing out the contract and issuing final payment of $31,549 to Lancha Construction Corp. for the third phase of the 2018 roadway paving and reconstruction project, subject to the posting of a one-year 15% maintenance bond in the amount of $236,622.
