EAST BRUNSWICK–The Township Council approved a resolution awarding VMG Group a contract to perform roof and HVAC Unit replacement at the East Brunswick Senior Center.
Business Administrator Joseph Criscuolo said the roof is old and in much need of repair.
The township advertised for the submission of bids for the roof and HVAC unit replacement at the senior center. The following five bids were received on Aug. 20:
- VMG Group of Roselle submitted a bid total of $389,000;
- Patwood Roofing Company of Little Falls submitted a bid total of $435,000;
- NRM-Northeast Roof Maintenance of Perth Amboy submitted a bid total of $498,000;
- Integrity Roofing Inc. of Rahway submitted a bid total of $532,340;
- First Line GC of Astoria, New York, submitted a bid total of $640,000.
The council approved the resolution on Aug. 24 during the council meeting via video conference.
Funds are available in the Senior Center Building Improvement Grant account, according to the council.
Since March, immediately following the Senior Center’s closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, Director Danielle Micale said the township worked collaboratively on setting up virtual activities and programs.
If the department is able to open the center in any capacity, Micale said it will be an abbreviated schedule with pre-registration required, as well as numerous safety protocols in place.
“It is not likely that we will be able to resume previous center operations as we were prior to the pandemic, given the absence of a vaccine or viable treatment,” Micale said. “As we know, older adults are at greater risk and it is not safe to have our participants 60-plus congregate in large groups at this time considering that our daily attendance was at 150-plus per day.”
