SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville School District Board of Education has named a district physician for the 2020-21 school year.
On Sept. 15, board members named Dr. Matthew Speesler as school district physician. He will receive an annual salary of $8,000 as school district physician, according to district administrators.
Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe said during the meeting that Speesler will provide physician care to both students and staff.
Speesler’s appointment will be active from Sept. 16 through the end of the school year on June 30, 2021. According to district administrators, the appointment was made without competitive bidding.
Board members also hired Dr. Kenneth Swan of University Orthopaedic Associates to provide orthopedic care to the district’s student-athletes during 2020-21.
According to district administrators, Swan will be present at all home varsity football games and available for consultation regarding all orthopedic sports related injuries for Sayreville student-athletes. He will receive an annual salary of $1,000.
Both Speesler and Swan may be reappointed by the board after the 2020-21 school year.
“We’re real happy to have two incredibly talented and obviously talented physicians onboard with the school district right now,” Labbe said.
In other business, board members appointed Kaleidoscope Education Solutions to provide speech therapy services from Sept. 16 through Nov. 30. Kaleidoscope Education Solutions will receive an hourly rate of $82, not to exceed $20,000.
Board members also approved the purchase of technology services from Aspire Technology Partners for the cabling of Cisco video endpoints in up to 181 classrooms. The cost of the purchase is not to exceed $68,168, according to district administrators.
