South Brunswick has lowest number of new COVID cases since March

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – South Brunswick Township has once again dropped into the single digits with its newly reported COVID-19 cases from last week.

The majority of the weeks since June 14 have seen weekly COVID positive cases in the single digits, and there were only two new cases reported last week, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management on Oct. 19.

This number ties to the township’s lowest number of new cases since the middle of March.

The average age of the two people who tested positive last week was 37 years of age, according to the statement. One was male and one was female.

In addition to those two new cases, township officials were informed of three additional cases confirmed from previous months, bringing the total number of COVID positive cases to 577 in South Brunswick.

One of the cases from a previous month occurred in April and resulted in a death, according to the statement. No new recent deaths were reported.

There have been 33 township residents who have passed away from the virus. Of those deaths, 17 were men and 16 were women. The average age of the individuals who passed away from the virus in the township is 76 years old. Half of all individuals who passed away were living in, or connected to, long-term care facilities, according to the statement.

Middlesex County reports a total of 20,930 residents who have tested positive as of Oct. 19.

Statewide, 758 people are hospitalized from COVID as of Oct. 19, according to the statement, down from a high of more than 8,000 in April.
