Trump supporters, counter protesters assemble along Route 18

EAST BRUNSWICK–Gathering near one of East Brunswick’s busiest intersections, supporters of President Donald Trump as well as counter protesters showcased their political stances along Route 18.

Wearing MAGA (Make America Great Again) hats, waving flags and using their voices, more than 60 Trump supporters gathered along the sidewalk on Oct. 24 near the Tices Lane and Route 18 intersection.

Using their own signs, flags and their voices, more than 10 counter protesters stood directly across from the Trump supporters on the sidewalk along Route 18.

Holding up a Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden and Vice Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris 2020 flag, Natalie Tsang said she decided to come out to make her voice heard.

“There are a lot of Trump supporters here that are not even from this town so we just want to make our presence known. We are young voters [and] we are not on their side,” Tsang said.

Counter protesters held up “Black Lives Matter” and LGBTQ flags. They would also shout “vote” and “vote him out.”

Drivers who passed honked their horns to show their support towards the Trump supporters or the counter-protesters.

Trump supporter Scott Bradford said, “This is my eighth week in a row just being frustrated with being told by our governor and various other politicians about what I can and can’t do. So I started by myself for two weeks just holding flags [and] getting stuff thrown at me which only invigorated me that I guess I am hitting a nerve.”

Trump supporters held up “Trump 2020,” “Puerto Rico for Trump,” “Blue Lives Matters” and “Trump for Women” flags. They also shouted “U.S.A.,” “All lives matters” and “Four more years.”

Waving a U.S. and Trump 2020 flag, Bradford said he posted on his Facebook page that he would be on Route 18 to peacefully protest his frustration with the governor and various politicians, while also showing his support for Trump.

“So again, people telling us what we can and can’t do, so I am just standing up for my individual choices [and] what I chose to do,” Bradford said. “These guys all [chose] to join me so all I do is provide a platform and all these guys show up.”

Bradford said he will continue to come out to showcase his frustration and support for Trump even after Election day on Nov. 3.
