North Brunswick waives water, sewer fees for all customers

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Municipal officials in North Brunswick have extended the governor’s mandate to offer waivers not just to residential water customers, but for sewer fees as well for residential and business customers.

Gov. Phil Murphy mandated that the interest on water usage fees for residential customers be waived during the coronavirus pandemic, through at least March 15, 2021.

Township Council members unanimously passed their own resolution on Dec. 7 which calls for the waiving of interest fees on water usage for residential customers, expanding the waiver to include sewer interest fees, and offering both to businesses in addition to residents.

“I think in our case to try to take sewer interest and make it a separate item, I think the calculation complications are too great,” council President Ralph Andrews said, noting that every municipality calculates its utility payments differently.

Andrews also said a lot of businesses are “getting killed” because of the pandemic and are probably using less water anyway.

“Anything to help our businesses in town, my opinion is, we should do it,” he said.

Mayor Francis “Mac” Womack clarified that any large water user in town, such as Bristol-Myers Squibb or Silverline, pays its bill on time so there should not be an issue there.
