Metuchen total COVID-19 cases surpass 400, mayor urges residents to heed warnings of health experts ahead of holiday week

METUCHEN – Last week, the borough reported 54 new COVID-19 cases, which sent total confirmed cases past 400, according to Mayor Jonathan Busch in a social media post on Dec. 21.

“A significant number of COVID transmission occurs in people’s private homes,” he said. “Introducing even one person from outside of your immediate family into your home significantly increases the risk to you and your family. We can bring these numbers down, but only if we heed the warnings of health experts and take these risks seriously this holiday week.”

As of Dec. 21, the borough has a total of 419 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The borough has lost five residents to COVID-19, according to Middlesex County.

The borough is offering a “heartwarming, free attraction” in the downtown business district called Metuchen Lights daily from 5-10 p.m. through the holiday season. It features strings of thousands of lights that outline downtown features as twinkling snowflakes and globes hang over Main Street.
