EAST BRUNSWICK–Superintendent of Schools Victor Valeski announced that families who have selected the option can return to a five-day-a-week in-person learning schedule beginning April 19.
“Based on a strong assumption that the CDC will relax distancing recommendations in school settings before April 19, I am planning to return pre-K-12 students, for those families who select it, to school five days a week for single session days beginning April 19, which is the first day of the fourth marking period,” Valeski said in a prepared statement.
Valeski said the impact of spring break travel, COVID infection and close contact quarantines, along with final classroom distancing recommendations and requirements, may impact the school district’s forecasted implementation date but be assured that returning students to school five days a week remains one of his top priorities if the district can accomplish it safely.
The Learning Model Form selections for the fourth marking period will be either:
- Virtual learning model; remote or
- In-Person instruction learning model; five days a week, beginning with the district’s single session day schedule and supplemental instruction in the afternoon.
“We will begin the fourth marking period with single session days, without lunch. We will evaluate our transition two weeks into the fourth marking period to measure continued district health and safety,” Valeski said in the statement. “Any additional step in this process is dependent on social distancing recommendations and required safeguards at that time.”
It is important to understand, Valeski said, that students in five days a week for in-person instruction could be required to shift to virtual learning during periods of state-mandated standardized testing or mandatory quarantines.
Valeski said the learning model form for the fourth marking period will be open in Parent Access to change selections for every student on March 22. The learning model form will close at 3 p.m. on March 26.
“All changes made will take effect beginning April 19, which is the first day of the fourth marking period. All current learning model selections will be rolled forward to the fourth marking period,” Valeski said in the statement. “If your child is currently in the hybrid learning model they will be moved to our in-person instruction learning model, five days a week unless you select to change your child to the full-time virtual learning model.”
Valeski said students currently in the virtual learning model will remain there for the fourth marking period unless you select to change your child to the in-person instruction learning model, five days a week.
“This is the last opportunity you will have to change your child’s learning model for this school year,” Valeski said in the statement.
